South Africa hosts the first G20 Summit on African soil

South Africa made history in November 2025 by hosting the first G20 Leaders' Summit on African soil, at the Johannesburg Expo Centre. As the first African country to chair the G20, South Africa used its presidency — under the theme of Solidarity, Equality and Sustainability — to put African and Global South priorities on the world agenda. Leaders adopted a 122-paragraph declaration, and the summit saw the launch of the Partnership for African Infrastructure, a multi-billion-dollar initiative for transport, energy and digital connectivity across the continent. Hosting a summit of this scale, smoothly and safely, reaffirmed South Africa's standing as a capable global host.
